MCA charged for faking his abduction
Kisumu West MCA Paul Okiri has this afternoon been arrested and charged in court for faking his abduction.He also faced further charges of giving police false information.
Appearing before Kisumu High Court Magistrate Angeline Odawo, Okiri was charged with two counts, giving false information to the police and incitement to violence.
He was charged that on the 30th September 2016 at Kamagambo police station in Rongo within Migori County gave false information to Police Constable Rodgers Wafula that he had been kidnapped in Kapuonja in Kisumu West and dumped in Rongo.
The second charge read that on 29th September 2016 in Kisumu West with others not before court, he stage managed his own disappearance an act that produced acts of violence leading to the destruction of property owned by one George Anyonga.
Okiri denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh. 100,000 and an alternative bond of Sh. 200,000.
This follows his dramatic disappearance last September from his home in Kapuonja. The MCA went missing as neighbors found his car abandoned a few meters from his home but he reappeared days later In Rongo with claims that he had been abducted and abandoned in a sugar cane plantation.
When the residents heard of his alleged kidnapping they burnt down the home of Kisumu County Chief Officer George Akong
o accusing him on the involvement into the MCAs disappearance.
The case will be mentioned on 22nd February and hearing slated for 29th March this year.
