Pirates attack Fishermen at Sori Beach
Suspected pirates yesterday night raided fishermen at Sori beach and managed to escape with two boats engines amounting to ksh.500, 000.
The night attack on fishermen at Sori beach by unknown assailants also left one fisherman with minor injuries.
Speaking to Nam lolwe over the phone, Sori beach management chairman Mr.Bamrich Okoth said the attackers who were using a motorboat terrorized the fishermen and escaped with two boat engines to unknown place in the middle of the night
Mr.Okoth said the assailants were targeting many boat engines fortunately other fishermen managed to escape their trap.
The Sori beach management unit chairman has raised concern over insecurity in the waters of Lake Victoria urging the security agencies to help in restoring security.
He said most fishermen are currently operating in the water with a lot of fear because of the current and previous attacks and therefore he is urging the police to investigate the matter conclusively.
Mr.Okoth also urged the fishermen to be very vigilant when they are operating in the waters during the night for their own safety and the safety of their fishing gears.
Nyatike OCPD Dishon Chabaka said they are yet to receive any report about the night attack, however he said they will act the sooner the report is made.
