Police officers beat up Journalist
A journalist based in Siaya was last night injured by the Quick Responce Team police in Usenge.
Isaih Gwengi who works for the Standard newspaper in Siaya county was covering the area following cries from residents over harrassment by the officers.
A boda boda operator said that two officers had been attacked and beaten up by two drunk men prompting the officers to comb out the area.
They have since been coming in and harrassing us motorcyclists` said one of the operators.
He added that their motor bycles have been confiscated for no apparent reason and are arrested on sight without any crime.
Isaih and an activist Rodgers Ochieng were arrested by the officers.Isaih was injured on the back of his head,hands and face.They took him to Got Agulu hospital where he was treated and taken to the police cells at Usenge.
The news of his arrest was met angrily by journalists who called for his quick release.
They termed it as going against the right to journalistic freedom urging the police to let journalists to do their work in peace away from intimidation and harassment.
Dickson Odhiambo i charge of Journalists in the regio termed the arrest and beating unfortunate.
They were later released on a free bail.
