Parents urged to educate their disabled children
CAROL OTIENO – MIGORI COUNTY
Kuja special school for the deaf joined the rest of the world in celebrating the world “Ring The bell” program which is celebrated annually to create awareness and to encourage the parents and guardians to protect and to take their disabled children to school.
Speaking to the press in Rongo, the program coordinator Mr. Jabes Ouma Mbola who also works with the Catholic Church to protect the disabled people in the society said that it has been realized that several children with disability are being locked in homes and houses yet they can also go to school and assist in building the nation like other normal children.
He said that through the “ring the bell” program they have managed to attract many parents who after hearing the news, take their disabled children to school.
Jabes added that the Catholic Church is now working together with Cheshire disability services of Kenya and Lillian foundation to ensure that they assist as many disabled children as possible.
He also asked all parents to ensure that they take their disabled children to school no matter the kind of disability.
His sentiments were echoed by the head teacher of Kuja Primary School for the deaf Mrs. Jemima Were who also said that many parents do not like to associate with their children with disability urging them to change the notion.
