Man arrested with voting materials
Police in Kisumu last night arrested a man in Obunga within Kisumu Central in possession of elections materials.
Kisumu County Commander Titus Yoma says officers arrested the man from his house with the materials that included ballot boxes among other things.
Yoma says they also impounded the saloon car which was carrying the 7 boxes and 7 buckets plus other writing materials.He says police are interrogating the suspect and he will be arraigned in court.
Speaking at the Central police station Yoma also confirmed that the voting materials for the Kisumu county elections have arrived and in police custody.
He says they will ensure that they will be ready in polling centres on time adding that police will be very vigilant to ensure security is maintained.
Kisumu county gubernatorial candidate Dr Hezron McObewa who was among the aspirants who arrived at the station to witness arrival of the election materials condemned the incident of the arrested suspect.
He said it was important that the election is free and fair and urged police to get to the bottom of the matter.
Earlier, Kisumu County Returning Officer Tom Okong’o confirmed they are ready for elections and warned that any candidate who will perpetrate violence will be disqualified
Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma said he was ready for elections but urged the National Elections Board to ensure the process is free and fair.
